"Earth Hour" is a global environmental movement, started by the WWF in 2007, during which people share their desire to stop global warming and protect the global environment by turning off lights at a certain day and time (from 8:30pm to 9:30pm local time). Earth Hour 2017 took place across 187 countries and regions.
Canon fully supports the concept of Earth Hour and has held a global "lights-off event" across Canon Group companies globally since last year. Our event stared in the Oceania region, which is closest to the International Date Line, and spread to Asia, Europe and Americas. The total participants included 283 sites at 36 countries and regions in Canon global networks, even last year’s result was 231 sites at 26 countries and regions.

Canon Spain and WWF Spain launched the Online Solidarity Contest through Twitter from March 24 to 31. Participants choose their favorite origami animal at Canon’s Creative Park and print and fold it. Then, they should upload a photograph of it to their Twitter account, explaining why they chose that animal. Canon Spain donates 1 Euro to WWF Spain per each participant who posts the animal photograph on Twitter.
To promote the Online Solidarity Contest, Canon Spain handed out origami figures of a panda bear, the icon animal of the WWF, at the "Plaza de Oriente" in Madrid on Saturday March 25th 2017.
