Today, Canon Inc. announced that entry applications for New Cosmos of Photography 2017 (the 40th competition) photo competition will be accepted from April 20, 2017 using its Web Entry Application system. Detailed information on procedures will be announced on this Website on Thursday, April 20. The competition will be judged byDayanita Singh (Artist), Sandra Phillips (Curator, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art), Tomoko Sawada (Artist), Hiraki Sawa (Artist), Minoru Shimizu (Photo critic) and other two(to be determined). Through the judging process, each judge will select one Excellent Award winner and one or two Honorable Mention Award winners.
Award winners will be allowed to exhibit their works at the New Cosmos of Photography Tokyo Exhibition 2017, which is scheduled to be held in November this year. Furthermore, the Grand Prize selection committee will meet and select the Grand Prize winner from among the Excellent Award winners during the exhibition’s run. The meeting of the committee will be open to the public.
The New Cosmos of Photography is open to entries from anyone, regardless of age or nationality, and accepts photographic works regardless of size, format, or number of constituent items. And, contestants can submit entries including both still images and videos online. Experimental works are welcome, and we encourage contestants to push the possibilities of creative photographic expression, while making full use of their individuality and sensibilities. We look forward to entries that provide a glimpse of tomorrow’s photography.
Please note that we plan to publish the names and profiles of the judges, along with their expectations of entries and messages to contestants, on the Website as soon as the judges are finalized.
Applications to enter the contest will be accepted between Thursday, April 20, 2017 and Thursday, June 8, 2017. Applications will be accepted until 23:59 JST on the final day.
