Canon Vietnam has been running the For a Green Vietnam Project of afforestation activities since 2010, as part of the company's social contribution activities (actions on climate change). Under the For a Green Vietnam Project, employees from Canon Vietnam and Canon Marketing Vietnam participate in activities alongside members of the Vietnam Department of Agriculture & Rural Development, the Commune People Committee, and the Communist Youth Union. As of 2016, 325,800 trees in total had been planted, and 3,941 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions were eliminated in just 2015. The Project has been highly praised by the Vietnam government, receiving an Environment Award in 2013 and the Green Brand Award from the Vietnam Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in 2015.
The objectives of our afforestation activities are: (1) tree planting to primarily counter climate change, (2) stop soil erosion and prevent flooding, (3) protect wildlife, and (4) raise living standards of local residents. Our activities contribute to objective (1) in all areas, and contribute to objective (3) in the Ben En National Park in Thanh Hoa, to objective (2) in the Bac Giang area, and to objectives (2) and (4) in Yen Bai, by planting Shan Tuyet trees that are used to make tea. Around 500 employees and volunteers gather for each event, where they enjoy various ceremonies and tree-planting operations.
