ARTIST STATEMENT

Specimen-E

There are times when the photographic subject, the method, or what I want to express comes first. I always thought to put those into photographs. That's why it's always an experiment. Sometimes it works well. Sometimes it doesn't work at all. (I decide to rethink it someday and try again.)But usually I wind up abandoning it. Experimenting with two-dimensional expressions such as filter effects and layered images, I wound up with three-dimensional. Sometimes it's literally a photograph, and sometimes it turns out to be a crazy looking object. Sometimes I wonder if it could be considered a photograph. However, it's always been photography since I started, and I intend to always continue photography.

Selecting judge: Kotaro Iizawa

He has shown us strong works each time, and his concentration shows this time also. I am astonished at his core strength in pursuing one certain concept to the limit. Just one piece is sufficiently intriguing, but by using a multiple development of 12 pieces, he was able to achieve an enhanced versatile effect. Mr. Endo's youthful, productive works will probably continue to largely stimulate the New Cosmos of Photography.
