ARTIST STATEMENT

hidden space, just like

Have you ever had this experience? For example, when you fell in love. And then, all of a sudden, being unable to recall your lover’s face.

Think of photographs as records. Our memories are also a kind of record. But hitting exactly on one specific memory, out of so many millions, is very hard. This is because we are swayed by so many emotions, and we fabricate these “memories” unconsciously.

If we, once in love, were to print out the data of that love, it is certain to be a beautiful photo.

Entries form: Book, objects, A3, 23 pieces

Selecting judge: Erin O’Toole

This work stood out from the start for me. I was drawn to the radical juxtapositions of color and patterns, which produce visual excitement and compositional energy.
Often the collages are constructed of two pictures with wildly divergent color schemes that come together to create a harmonious whole.
There is something cosmic about these pictures. Some are reminiscent of pictures taken of outer space taken from a telescope, while others conjure the teeming landscape of inner space.
