This compact, lightweight standard zoom lens went on sale in 1987 at the same time as the EOS 650. Incorporating the same three-group zoom optical system as the New FD35-70mm F3.5-4, it realizes a minimum focusing distance of 0.39m, making possible macro photography throughout the entire zoom range, and features a rotating zoom ring. As a lightweight, easy-to-use standard zoom lens, the EF35-70mm F3.5-4.5 played a central role within the early EF lens lineup.
