Incorporating such special optical materials as fluorite and UD (ultra low-dispersion) glass, the new Canon single-focal-length lens effectively correct the chromatic aberrations that can occur in telephoto lenses while realizing high-resolution, high-contrast shooting performance. Additionally, the lens features a high-performance Image Stabilizer that provides image stabilization equivalent to approximately four shutter-speed stops.*

The super-telephoto EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM effectively meets the demands of users working in such fields as sports, news, and nature photography. Through optimized lens positioning and coating, this L-series lens minimizes the flare and ghosting commonly associated with digital camera photography while also realizing excellent color balance.

The main parts of the EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM employ magnesium alloy to ensure sturdy, durable performance while also contributing to smaller and lighter lens body. Furthermore, rubber dust and moisture protection on mounting parts, switch panels and elsewhere provides added peace of mind when shooting in inclement shooting conditions.

* Based on a shutter speed of “1/focal length” seconds, considered the limit for hand-held photography without image stabilization.
