The EF-S18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, equipped with an Image Stabilizer mechanism that compensates for camera shake with an approximately 4-shutter speed step correction capability,*1 delivers convenience and high performance. Two UD (ultra-low dispersion) and two high-precision glass-mold aspherical lenses correct for a variety of aberrations to realize high image quality throughout the entire zoom range, while the model’s inner focus system allows for effective close-up shooting at a minimum distance of 0.45 meters (approximately 1.57 feet), rendering the EF-S18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS especially effective for close-up shots.
The highly effective Image Stabilizer not only creates stable shooting environments even during hand-held shootings, but also automatically switches to the appropriate stabilization mode after distinguishing between conventional and panning shots. This allows users to shoot without worry over which mode they are in. Ghosting and flare are kept to a minimum through optimized lens position and coating, and the lens is equipped with a circular aperture diaphragm that achieves natural background-blur performance. The EF-S18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS features a “leather-tone” coating, which is also employed in Canon L (Luxury)-series lenses, contributing to an overall feeling of elegance. Additionally, the zoom ring lock mechanism keeps the lens at the shortest focal length to prevent it from accidentally extending when mounted on a camera.

*1 Based on a shutter speed of “1.6/focal length” seconds, considered the limit for hand-held photography without image stabilization
