This is a lightweight, compact standard zoom lens. It uses a new optical design that retains the same physical size as the current EF28-80 f/3.5-5.6 V USM but the telephoto focal length is longer at 90mm. By using an aspherical element, aberration variations during zooming have been minimized giving high image quality throughout the zoom range, while holding the number of lens elements to a minimum. The closest focusing distance is the same as the EF28-80 f/3.5-5.6 V USM , but the maximum magnification has improved to 0.3 at the longer 90mm focal length. The USM focusing motor gives silent, high-speed focusing.
The silver ring at the front of the zoom ring presents high-quality appearance, and the optical system uses only environmentally friendly lead-free glass.
