The EF70–200 f/2.8L IS III USM telephoto zoom lens is a renewed version of the approximately eight-year-old EF70–200 f/2.8L IS II USM (released in March 2010). While inheriting the optical design of its predecessor—23 elements in 19 groups, including such special optical materials as a fluorite lens and five Ultra Low Dispersion (UD) lenses—the lens employs revised coatings as well as Canon’s ASC (Air Sphere Coating), which exhibits exceptional anti-reflective properties for incident light that enters the lens at an almost vertical angle. These properties greatly reduce the occurrence of flaring and ghosting and realize improved performance when shooting backlit subjects, achieving high image quality in a variety of shooting environments.
