The Single 8 518 was introduced in 1965, and it was totally revised five years later. This camera employed the Servo EE mechanism, used for the Zoom DS-8, to control the diaphragm precisely with a servo motor. The “SV” in the model name stood for “servo.” Lens diaphragm control became very stable with this powerful servo motor. The electric rewind mechanism and fade out/in mechanism with shutter opening were applied to this model, making it a full-scale movie camera.
The popular 5x zoom lens was improved by adding a new type of glass element for sharper images. The viewfinder was also improved, expanding eyepiece diameter for brighter field of view.
