The PowerShot V1 boasts high image quality and high sensitivity. For the first time in a Canon compact digital camera, it features a 1.4" CMOS sensor which measures roughly double the size of the 1.0" sensor installed in typical compact digital cameras and contains a maximum of approximately 22.3 effective megapixels*1. The combination of this sensor and a DIGIC X image processor helps to achieve max sensitivity of normal ISO32000 (when capturing still images). The camera covers a zoom range equivalent to a focal length of approximately 16mm to 50mm*2 (35mm-equivalent focal length), and is suitable for shooting in a wide variety of scenarios such as group selfies, casual snapshots, and vlogs.

The device is also equipped with advanced AF functions. It utilizes “Dual Pixel CMOS AF II for PowerShot”*3 to achieve high-speed and high-accuracy AF. Additionally, it features an “Eye Detection”*4 function capable of detecting the eyes of not only humans but also animals, whose movements are difficult to predict, making it easy to focus when capturing a shot.

As a product in the PowerShot V1 series, the PowerShot V1 enables full-fledged video shooting. It comes with an internal cooling fan that efficiently dissipates heat to reduce the impact of temperature increases on shooting time. In addition to realizing 4K crop/60P video, the PowerShot V1 is supported by Canon Log *3, thereby enabling shots in vivid, lifelike color with 10-bit color depth. Additionally, shooting modes such as “Movie for Review,” suitable for product review videos, and “Image Stabilizer*5,” which is practical for handheld shots, make video shooting a breeze.

The PowerShot V1 is naturally excellent at capturing still images as well. When using the electronic shutter, it achieves continuous shooting of up to roughly 30 frames per second, allowing users to capture rapidly moving subjects before they slip out of view. It also includes a variety of functions for creating rich photographic expression such as an “Advanced A+” mode, which supports users by automatically recognizing the environment in situations where shooting is difficult such as nighttime or backlit scenes, and a “Creative Filter” to create impressionistic shots that evoke dioramas or photos taken by toy cameras.

*1 When capturing still images only. During video shooting, the number of effective pixels are approx. 18.7 megapixels. The number of effective pixels may decrease due to image processing.
*2 35mm focal length equivalent: Approx. 17-52mm
*3 Maximum possible range: Approx. 90% horizontal x 90% vertical
*4 Eye Detection function responds to humans and some animals (cats and dogs), but does not respond to birds or horses.
*5 When “Auto Horizontal Compensation” is set to ON, “Image Stabilizer (IS Function) Setting” cannot be used.
