Improving on its predecessor, the EF35mm f/2 (released in October 1990), the Canon EF35mm f/2 IS USM wide-angle fixed-focal-length lens newly incorporates an image stabilization function that corrects for hand shake, a feature that is particularly valuable when using a slow shutter speed. The lens realizes image stabilization equivalent to approximately four shutter-speed stops.*
The new EF35mm f/2 IS USM employs a glass mold aspherical lens that effectively corrects for various aberrations, including curvature of field, making possible high-image-quality, highly expressive results unrivalled by its predecessor. Furthermore, optimized lens positioning and coatings greatly minimize the occurrence of flare and ghosting. In addition to a ring USM drive and high-speed CPU, the lens incorporates an optimized AF algorithm making possible high-speed AF performance. A full-time manual focus function lets users make fine focus adjustments after auto-focusing is completed.
* Based on a shutter speed of 1/focal length seconds, considered the limit to prevent hand shake during hand-held photography.
