The EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM ultra-wide-angle zoom lens is a renewed version of the ten-year-old EF16-35mm f/2.8L II USM (released in March 2007). It incorporates 16 elements in 11 groups, including three aspherical lenses—two large-diameter glass molded aspherical lenses and a ground aspherical lens—and two Ultra Low Dispersion (UD) lenses, as well as ASC and Subwavelength Structure Coating (SWC), which combine to achieve image quality that greatly exceeds that of its predecessor. As a result, the lens suppresses the lateral chromatic aberration that causes color blur, the distortion that causes skewing, and the occurrence of ghosting and flaring to achieve high image quality from the center of the image field to the peripheral areas.
