As the compensation of aberrations occurring in large aperture and wide angle conflict, larger apertures were considered to be difficult at wide angles. However, the spread of system cameras has led to wide-angle lenses being used as standard lenses, which increased demand for the development of a bright wide-angle lens with high performance.
Canon was already providing the market with a 24mm f/1.4 ultra-wide angle lens by adopting an aspherical lens optical system, but this FD28mm f/2 S.S.C. resolves the issue of conflicting aberration compensation by actively adopting new types of glass and appropriate power distribution achieved through new optical design technology. This results in sharp definition at high contrast from an aperture of f/2.
By incorporating a compensation mechanism (floating system) for preventing deterioration of images in close shooting, this high-performance large aperture wide-angle lens offers uniform definition throughout the entire frame from infinity to the close distance of 0.3m.
