The Canonet’s successor with an SE 45mm f/1.7 lens (6 elements in 4 groups). The first camera to be produced with Canon’s automated design technology.
Improvements over the Canonet included a film advance lever on the top instead of a bottom winding trigger. The selenium exposure meter was replaced by a CdS exposure meter which increased the low sensitivity range to EV 2.5. In the following year, QL versions were introduced, making the Canonet S a short-lived model.
