When released, this was the world’s brightest 400mm large-aperture super telephoto lens. The manufacture of this lens involved not only design technology, but also advanced technology in all aspects from component processing to assembly, and was made possible by the culmination of Canon’s technological prowess. Its optical system uses two UD glass lens elements, providing uniform image quality throughout the entire frame even at maximum aperture despite having a large aperture. Furthermore, the lens offers easy operability through various functions such as the rear focusing system that does not change the overall length, the vari-pitch focusing system that makes focusing easier at longer distances, a one-touch revolving mechanism, and a prefocusing mechanism.
The lens exhibits its full potential indoors and for sports shooting under lights, meeting the demands of professional and media photographers.
