When mounted between an EOS R camera and RF series lens1, the extender enables focal length manufacturing while maintaining the paired lens’ imaging performance.
The Extender RF1.4x realizes a 1.4-times increase in focal length, respectively, even during super-telephoto shooting2. When paired with the RF800mm F11 IS STM super-telephoto lens, the Extender RF2x makes possible shooting at a focal length of 1600mm, enabling photographers to draw their subjects closer and create powerful images.

Taking advantage of the characteristics of the RF mount—a large internal diameter and short back focus3—to place a large-diameter lens close to the imaging plane on the camera side, RF lenses achieve high image quality from the center of the image field to the peripheral areas across the entire zoom range, while realizing a compact, lightweight design. What’s more, the utilization of high-refraction, low-dispersion optical glass materials helps reduce a variety of aberrations that lead to reduced image quality, while triple-lens grouping and optimized lens coating reduce the amount of contact between air and lens surfaces, reducing ghosting and improving image quality.

In addition to dust- and moisture-resistant construction4 around the lens mount and controls, the extender features a durable impact-resistant design in order to accommodate larger lenses. Thanks to paint that reflects sunlight and infrared-light, the Extender RF1.4x helps prevent temperature increases in the attached lens.

1 Compatible lenses: the RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM (to be released in late July 2020 and the RF600mm F11 IS STM and RF800mm F11 IS STM (both to be released in late July 2020). As of July 9, 2020.
2 The f-number of the attached lens at fully open aperture is increased by one stop when using the Extender RF1.4x.
3 A short distance between the optical axis from the vertex of the rear lens element to the imaging plane when focused to infinity.
4 While the structures of the extenders make arrangements for dust and moisture prevention, they cannot completely prevent the entry of dust and water.
