Maintaining the same high portability and image quality of the RF400mm F2.8 L IS USM, the new lens realizes a compact and lightweight body1, as well as high image quality, thanks to an expanded proprietary optical configuration in the rear of the lens body. This super-telephoto lens for mirrorless cameras, with focal lengths of 800 mm respectively, feature large apertures and achieve extremely light weight and compact design, thus helping expand the possibilities of visual expression when capturing such subjects as animals, aircraft and athletes.
The new lens can extend their focal lengths by attaching lens extenders. The RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM realizes a focal length of 1600mm when used with the RF 1.4x extender (released in 2020). This lens maintains the AF and IS functionalities even when used with their respective extenders. When paired with high-sensitivity cameras, this lens holds the potential for use in such applications as monitoring of airports, harbors, rivers and other vital areas.
Featuring a heat-shield coating that more effectively reflects infrared light, including sunlight, thanks to their ability to mitigate temperature changes of the lens elements. This enables them to be used for long durations in such environments as sports matches under intense heat. In addition, their build quality helps maintain a level of reliability worthy of the L series designation, by employing dust and moisture resistance2 in such areas as the mount connection, switches and focus rings.
1 weighs: approximately 3,140 g.
2 Product designs take precautions to ensure dust and moisture resistance, but Canon cannot guarantee absolute protection from sand, dust, water and other materials.
