The RF28mm F2.8 STM is a pancake lens that leverages its unique advantages as a single-focal-length lens—a bright aperture and background blur—to achieve high image quality from the center to the periphery. When used with a full-frame sensor camera, the lens provides a convenient 28 mm wide-angle focal length. The lens can also be used with APS-C size sensor cameras for shooting at a 45 mm focal length^*1, thus making it a versatile lens that can be used in a variety of scenarios. Combined with a compact and lightweight EOS R series camera, the lens contributes to an easily portable system that meets the needs of shooters seeking a free and pleasant shooting experience.

By placing three large-diameter, high-precision plastic-mold aspherical lens elements so that they are positioned directly in front of the camera’s CMOS sensor, the lens is able to realize a configuration that minimizes the number of lens elements, thus ensuring a compact size, while achieving superb descriptive ability from the center of the lens to the periphery. With a maximum diameter of approximatelyφ69.2 mm, a length of approximately 24.7 mm (when stored away) and a weight of approximately 120 g, the RF28mm F2.8 STM realizes the most compact and lightweight design in the RF series of lenses. Thanks to this design and its superb portability, the lens also makes a convenient substitute for a camera body cap when carrying the camera.

The RF28mm F2.8 STM enables shooting at a wide-angle focal length of 28 mm when used with a full-frame camera. Its wide angle is convenient for shooting in indoor environment with naturally emphasized perspective, thus making it ideal for a diverse range of shooting scenarios such as everyday photography and landscapes. What’s more, the lens can be used with APS-C cameras for shooting at a 45 mm focal length, equivalent to a standard lens. This focal length is also close to that of the naked eye, allowing the lens to be used for shooting with a natural sense of perspective and distance, ideal for a variety of subjects including portraits, food and tabletop photography.

With a fast f/2.8 aperture, the RF28mm F2.8 STM enables users to capture high-quality images with soft, large background blur, thus enabling visual expression that is only possible with a single-focal-length lens.
