The RF75-300mm F4-5.6 is aimed at users who seek to capture shots in situations that are challenging with a standard zoom lens and those seeking an upgrade from their smartphone or compact digital camera. This lens features an easy-to-carry compact and lightweight body that enables such users to comfortably enjoy telephoto shooting while traveling or outdoors. Furthermore, the new product is available at an affordable price range, having been developed by applying an RF mount to the optical design of the market-proven EF75-300mm F4-5.6 III (released in April 1999)*1. In addition to up-close images of distant subjects, the lens also enables characteristic landscape shots that make the distance between the subject and its background appear compressed, thereby expanding the user’s shooting range.
The telephoto range of this lens, which covers focal lengths from 75 mm to 300 mm, is useful in a variety of situations, such as when photographing animals or wild birds that may run away if approached, when shooting participants at a sports festival or a stage performance from the audience section, or when shooting sports in a large stadium, when aiming to make a distant subject look bigger, or when trying to highlight a subject by using bokeh. Additionally, when combined with an APS-C camera, the lens offers ultra-telephoto shooting with focal lengths in a range equivalent to 120 mm to 480 mm in the 35 mm format, making it ideal for shooting wild birds or airplanes, for example.
Despite being a telephoto zoom lens, the RF75-300mm F4-5.6 measures a total length of approximately 146.1 mm and weighs approximately 507 g, equivalent to the weight of one 500 ml beverage in a plastic bottle.
When attached to the EOS R100 (released in June 2023), the lightest model in the EOS R series, the combined weight of the camera and the lens is approximately 863 g*2. This compact and lightweight design makes it easy to shoot in a wide range of situations including not only still images but also movies.
