The distance between the two lenses is approximately 11.8 mm, which is narrower than the previous product, the RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE (released in June 2024). This enables users to shoot high-quality 3D images in close proximity even when the distance to the subject is less than 50 cm.
Close-up shots of operations performed in front of the camera including cooking and paper craft making or subjects such as pets can be captured in 3D with texture and depth, making viewers feel as if the subjects are physically there.
By effectively arranging 9 elements including 2 UD lenses*1 in 7 groups, high image quality is achieved throughout the entire image. The lens has been constructed without a prism in order to create a compact and lightweight design weighing approximately 131 g. In addition, the lens is equipped with a dual-lens interlocking AF mechanism driven by a stepping motor (STM), making it possible to achieve high-speed, high-precision AF with the same operational feel as a standard RF lens.
Images and videos shot with the lens can be viewed in a variety of formats. Through EOS VR Utility, the PC app for the EOS VR System, in addition to output in 3D VR180° format, users can convert captured images and video into 3D VR180°/360° format and MV-HEVC format for Apple Vision Pro spatial video. It is also compatible with various viewing formats; for instance, images and videos can be converted*2 to 3D VR180° format using EOS VR Plugin for Adobe Premiere, a dedicate plugin*3 for Adobe Premiere Pro.
*1 Lenses made of UD (ultra-low dispersion) glass
*2 Conversion to MV-HEVC format only possible with macOS and Apple Silicon Mac.
*3 Software that enhances application functions. Please use the version of Adobe Premiere Pro available for download from Adobe Creative Cloud.
