TOKYO, November 9, 2010Canon Inc. and Canon Marketing Japan Inc. today announced the introduction to the Japanese market of "Scan and Print for imageRUNNER ADVANCE," a free-of-charge application that enables users of Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE multifunction office systems to directly access cloud services from the devices.
Based on MEAP (Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform) technology, Canon's Scan and Print for imageRUNNER ADVANCE application, to be made available in mid December, allows users to scan paper-based documents on an imageRUNNER ADVANCE machine and directly store the scanned data on a cloud service without a PC. In addition, the application also makes possible the printing of cloud-stored files.*
By facilitating direct integration with Microsoft SharePoint Online and Google Docs, the industry's leading cloud services, Scan and Print for imageRUNNER ADVANCE provides expanded services for users of both cloud services.
The new Canon application lets users store paper-based documents on cloud services directly from an imageRUNNER machine without the need for a PC. The stored data can then be accessed from a PC, handheld device or smartphone, and simultaneously shared among multiple users regardless of location. As such, users can realize significant management cost savings compared with managing paper-based documents, and can also use their imageRUNNER ADVANCE device to easily print out electronic data stored and managed on cloud services, again without the need for a PC.*
Following its introduction in the Japanese market, Scan and Print for imageRUNNER ADVANCE will be rolled out globally to North America, Europe, Oceania and Asia.
In the future, Canon will continue offering new services in connection with cloud services.
