'Nature Positive' Initiatives at Canon
The Canon Group Certified as Nature Symbiosis Sites
Each site has a green zone where a variety of creatures are nurtured. Introducing sites certified by the Ministry of the Environment as "nature symbiosis sites."
Canon Inc. Shimomaruko Headquarters (Ota-ku, Tokyo)
The Canon Shimomaruko Forest is a greenbelt on the premises of the headquarters with nearly 1,000 trees of about 80 varieties. As part of the Bird Branch Project, we make our premises more suitable for wild birds, conduct monthly bird surveys, and disseminate information online. So far, 45 kinds of wild birds, including peregrine falcons and Japanese tits, have been identified. Summer and winter birds fly in and out of the site, and we also encounter young birds in the spring.

Oita Canon Inc. Oita Plant (Oita Prefecture)
The company is located on a hill near the Ono River in the eastern part of Oita City, surrounded by beautiful nature. We manage the company-owned forest on the site as the Canon Forest to coexist with nature without destroying it. Wild birds such as the Common Buzzard, Pacific Swift, Narcissus Flycatcher, and Japanese Paradise Flycatcher, as well as native Oita salamanders, Japanese fireflies, wild strawberries, and chocolate vines, are nurtured here.

Canon Medical Systems Corporation (Tochigi Prefecture)
Since 2012, we have been conducting biodiversity conservation activities in cooperation with our employees and local people, aiming to build a company that coexists with nature. In 2014, the Canon Otawara Forest and Butterfly Biotope was created in a green area on the premises. This developed area has transformed into a rich and diverse environment where insects listed in the Red Data Book, such as the Great Purple Emperor and the Spotless Grass Yellow, as well as birds of prey like the Falco Peregrinus and the Northern Goshawk, can be found.

Canon Ecology Industry (Ibaraki Prefecture)
The Canon Bird Branch Project is being expanded through steps such as planting a variety of vegetation on the premises and developing habitat environments for wild birds. Living organisms on the premises are being periodically observed. Furthermore, the area serves as an environmental learning facility open to the local community and has been highly recognized as a center where people can experience coexistence with nature. This certification was granted for the first time based on the Act on Promoting Activities to Enhance Regional Biodiversity* which came into effect in April 2025, and this is the group’s first example of certification after passage of the law.
