Canon Aids Earthquake Relief Efforts in Sichuan Province, China

On May 12, a powerful earthquake struck central China's Sichuan Province, resulting in extensive devastation throughout the region. We at Canon extend our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this disaster and our thoughts go out to the victims and their families. While we realize that the road to recovery will be difficult and take time, we hope that the region will soon be able to begin the rebuilding and healing process.

The Canon Group in Japan has aided in the relief efforts for the quake victims with an emergency-relief donation of 155 million yen (approximately US$1.48 million) to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

In addition, Canon Group employees throughout Japan contributed a total of 2,653,140 yen (approximately US$25,300), which was also donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

Furthermore, the Canon Group in China supported relief efforts for victims as follows:

  • A combined donation of RMB 2.6 million (approximately US$374,100, including employee contributions)
  • A donation of a digital X-ray system valued at RMB 3 million (approximately US$431,700) to the Mianyang City Central Hospital (Sichuan Province)
  • A donation of facsimile machines, digital cameras and digital video camcorders (16 units each) valued at RMB 2.5 million (approximately US$359,700) to WWF facilities located in panda nature-conservation zones in Sichuan and Shanxi
  • A 50% discount on all camera, printer and office equipment repair costs for customers in Sichuan and other disaster areas
