Science Based Targets initiative approves Canon's GHG emission reduction targets
GHG emissions reduction targets set by Canon Inc. have been approved as science-based targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The SBTi is an international initiative to encourage companies to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets on the basis of climate science. It is jointly operated by four organizations: the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), World Resources Institute (WRI), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and CDP.
[Approved Targets]
- Reduce absolute scope 1 and 2*1 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2022 base year
- Reduce absolute scope 3*1 GHG emissions (categories 1*1 and 11*1) 25% by 2030 from a 2022 base year
Canon will continue to reduce CO2 emissions in line with its Medium-term Environmental Targets*2 and the SBTi’s criteria, and contribute to the decarbonization of society as a whole.
- *1 Scope 1: Direct emissions (city gas, LPG, light oil, kerosene, non-energy-related greenhouse gases, etc.); Scope 2: Indirect emissions (electricity, steam, etc.); Scope 3: Supply-chain emissions
Category 1: Purchased goods and services; Category 11: Use of sold products - *2 Canon aims to consistently achieving the environmental targets of an average annual 3% improvement, in the index of in 2008, and realize a cumulative total 50% improvement by 2030.
