Resource Efficiency
Basic Approach / Targets and Achievements

Canon promotes recycling through the 3Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle.

There is an emerging global trend toward the recycling and reusing of resources due to concerns about natural resource depletion and marine plastic pollution.
To ensure more efficient use of limited resources and reduce waste, Canon is making products smaller and lighter, and reusing and recycling materials as much as possible. We also strive to reduce waste consumption and the generation of waste from manufacturing at our operational sites.

Canon seeks to recycle used products into new ones to maximize the value brought about by resource efficiency.

Managing Risks and Opportunities

Amid concerns about cost increases due to resource constraints and regulatory compliance, Canon recognizes that improving resource efficiency and introducing 3R technologies can potentially enhance competitiveness and reduce costs. We are therefore undertaking various activities because we see opportunities in the growing demand for products that contribute to a circular society and CO2 reduction through resource recycling efforts.

Risks Opportunities
  • Increased procurement costs of raw materials due to resource constraints
  • Stricter resource-efficiency regulation and associated compliance costs (products/services)
  • Increased costs for collection and recycling of used products in each region
  • Damage to corporate image from slow transition to resource efficiency
  • Business cost reduction through improved resource efficiency
  • Enhanced competitiveness through 3R design and development of advanced technologies that promote resource efficiency
  • Increased demand for products/consumables that contribute to resource efficiency (e.g., remanufactured products)
  • Enhanced corporate image through publicity of our advanced approach to resource efficiency
  • Offering the value of CO2 emissions reduction effect through efforts to recycle resources
