The Environmental Approaches and Initiatives of Four Business Groups
Initiatives of the Medical Group

As the needs of the healthcare sector increase and diversify, at the Medical Group we are engaged in the development of technologies and products tailored to the needs of doctors and patients. We intend to contribute to the further development of medicine through a focus on IT healthcare and In Vitro Diagnostics.

Goals

Decarbonization (reducing CO2 emissions)

At the Medical Group, we aim to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030 compared to 2022 levels, and Scope 3 (category 1 and 11) emissions by 25% by 2030 compared to 2022 levels.

Resource Efficiency

We promote resource efficiency in our products. Examples include the elimination of plastics in our product packaging, and the reuse of wooden pallets as wood shavings. Through such initiatives, our aim is to reduce our annual waste emission rate by 1%.

Strategy

Future Direction

We aim to engage in resource-efficient manufacturing and provision of services, so lowering not only our own costs, but also helping to improve the financial standing of our customers. We also intend to work together with local communities to promote biodiversity preservation activities.

Measures

Product Lifecycle
Product Lifecycle
1. Measures for raw materials

We will reduce our use of raw materials by developing smaller, lighter products.

2. Measures for production

We are lowering our carbon emissions by reducing the standby power consumption of our production facilities, and by upgrading to more efficient machines.

2. Measures for production

With regard to our product packaging, we are working to replace plastic cushioning materials and fixing materials with paper variants, and also seeking to eliminate cushioning materials entirely where possible.

3. Measures for logistics

We are working to reduce the volume of CO2 emitted when transporting our products by undertaking a modal shift from the use of trucks and airplanes to the use of railroads and ships.

4. Measures for use and maintenance

Our product development and design processes are rooted in IEC 60601-1-9, an international standard for the environmentally friendly design of medical equipment. Accordingly, we carry out various measured aimed at reducing our consumption of both energy and resources.

5. Measures for disposal and recycling

Our “Second Life” refurbishment program conforms to IEC 63077, an international standard for the repair and maintenance of used medical imaging equipment. Through this program, we endeavor to recycle used products and reuse used parts.
