[Special Movie] The Subaru Telescope and Hyper Suprime-Cam: Development of the World's Largest Corrective Optical System
The Subaru Telescope scans the cosmos from the peak of Mauna Kea, Hawaii, 4,200 m above sea level. As the only 8-meter class telescope equipped with an observation system at prime focus, the Subaru Telescope has been used since 1999 in the search for answers to the mysteries surrounding the origin and structure of the universe. In addition, a new prime-focus camera, the Hyper Suprime-Cam, was developed to make possible an even wider field of view. The camera is equipped with a prime-focus corrector optical system, a high-performance lens unit that was developed and manufactured by Canon to help advance studies in the field of space science.
