Canon announces successful resolution of toner cartridge-related patent infringement disputes against Sinocopy

Canon announced that Canon, Shanghai Sinocopy Industrial Co., Ltd. and Zhongshan Sinocopy Electronic Co., Ltd. (collectively, “Sinocopy”) have agreed to resolve a lawsuit that Canon filed in 2022 in Shanghai Intellectual Property Court of China against Sinocopy for infringement of Canon's Chinese invention patent No. ZL200780002318.1.
In 2024, Shanghai Intellectual Property Court made a judgement in favor of Canon, which finds accused toner cartridges infringe the Chinese invention patent No. ZL200780002318.1. Sinocopy filed an appeal against the judgement.
Thereafter, Canon and Sinocopy reached a settlement agreement, and based on the agreement, Sinocopy has withdrawn the appeal, meaning the judgment of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court is the effective final judgement.
To resolve the lawsuits, Sinocopy agreed to stop infringement upon the patent and pay Canon an undisclosed sum.
