Supporting a High School Class and the "Rikeco no Susume" STEM Event for Elementary Students in Hokkaido

Canon supported an Intellectual Property Infringement Prevention Educational Program and a hands-on event for elementary school students organized by the Hokkaido Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
On February 3, 2026, an educational program on preventing intellectual property rights infringement was conducted within a "Comprehensive Geography" lesson at Hokkaido Tomakomai Higashi Senior High School. Students discussed the issue of intellectual property infringement from a global perspective and explored the necessity and importance of international understanding and international cooperation.
Some students commented that they now clearly understand why counterfeit products circulate and how they affect consumers and the economy. Others shared that they realized counterfeit goods often have safety and quality issues, making them an important problem that can directly impact on our health and daily lives.
On February 11, Canon also supported "Rikeco no Susume", a hands-on event for elementary school students, organized by the Hokkaido Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry. Aimed at fostering early interest in STEM fields, the event provided children with opportunities to experience real work and research through participation by companies and universities. Canon presented a comparative display using genuine and counterfeit batteries, allowing children to handle the products and experience firsthand the importance of choosing safe and reliable products.
Canon will continue to work with educational institutions and public agencies to promote awareness so that the next generation—young people and children—can make safe product choices and develop an understanding of the importance of respecting intellectual property rights.
